LSR7 middle school cross country runners show off at state championship
Lee's Summit middle school students are state champions after competing in the Missouri Middle School Cross Country Championships. The races were held at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO.
Students were selected at the end of the regular Cross Country season and committed to training on their own with coaches for two weeks. Summit Lakes Middle School and Pleasant Lea Middle School competed in the Class 4/5 competition for boys and girls.
The team scores are determined by adding up a team's top five runners in a race, the lowest score wins. The top 25 runners in each race also receives an individual medal and is considered an All State runner.
SLMS's girl's team took first place in the two mile race, the boy's team finished in third. Pleasant Lea Middle School's boy's team took fifth, the girl's finished seventh.
